Grey's Anatomy Predictions: Dala

The very first thing I thought when I heard this Toronto duo, Dala, was that they would definitely be perfect for the show Grey's Anatomy. The duo have apparently been BFFs since high school and started writing songs together in 2002. They're also pretty big in Canada from the looks of it. Some of the ballads are really beautiful and dramatic (perfect for those emotional life-and-death scenes) and then there's the playful "Levi Blues" that reminded me of other playful girl music that has been used in the show like Bitter:Sweet or Meko. I have to admit some of their songs are a tad bit cheesy if you listen to the lyrics, but I don't think this would matter in terms of soundtrack, and sometimes it's fun to let yourself be absorbed into slightly cheesy sentiments.

Predictions: Grey's Anatomy Music

Barnaby Bright. The vocals are stellar. The instrumentation rich amongst picked acoustic guitars. This almost home-spun front porch version of The Weepies begs to be heard on a rainy night during an episode of personal reflection, as Nathan and Rebecca Bliss wrote their first full-length album Wake The Hero with the intent of conveying honesty and hitting "the heart, not the head." It's beautiful, softly dramatic music - take a listen.

Predictions: Grey's Anatomy Music

Soooooo let me just tell you what went on in my head when I first thought of the crazy possibility that perhaps Courtney Marie Andrews could be a Grey's Anatomy Prediction and then verified that she could be via my list: "Wait, what? Seriously? This one hasn't already been featured on Grey's? Really? I mean, come on, its Courtney Marie Andrews, indie/folk/pop darling extraordinaire. I mean, really? The girl even plays the BANJO, people. "

She can be dark, she can be peppy, she can be almost obnoxiously inciting. Camman! - perfect for Grey's.

Her upcoming album Painter's Hands and a Seventh Son will be released July 31st as well, so enjoy some tracks from it below.

An exciting week for The Hard Lessons

This week is an exciting one for one of my favorite bands, The Hard Lessons. Apparently one of their new songs ("Wedding Ring") from their upcoming album, Arms Forest, is going to be featured on Grey's Anatomy this Thursday. I was going to do a Grey's Predictions post for it, but I thought that would be cheating since I read about it ;-) Check out the song and some more of their new stuff on their myspace.

They're also doing a residence at Union Hall this week, here in Brooklyn. Their first show was Monday, but there are two more to catch if you missed it: Wednesday and Friday.

Predictions: Grey's Anatomy Music

Jenny Owen Youngs is a natural choice for this, I think - I mean, the girl's a indie pop singer who brings out the perfect breakup music with flair and thumping baselines while whipping out the sass-factor with lines like "If we weren't such good friends I think that I'd hate you." After the success of her self-released 2005 album Batten The Hatches, Jenny's second album, Transmitter Failure, is set for release May 26th and is chockful of electric guitars, blaring horns, keys and strings that can go from sweet and soft to rock-pop crunchy as quickly as her vocals do. Youngs stated that she wanted to create something that would move emotionally and physically, so it consists of soft harmonious multi-vocal pieces like "Nighty Night" to get lost in and more upbeat jams like "Led to the Sea" to get your toes tapping. She'll be touring with a GFP favorite, Jukebox the Ghost, later this spring, and her Lead To The Sea EP, which consists of some remixes of the upcoming tracks on Transmitter Failure, will be released April 7th.

Anya Marina

I've been meaning to write about Anya Marina for a while now. Then the other day I heard her song on the radio. But the weird thing was, it was on some rock station. Now, I mean this in no negative way, but Anya Marina is not rock. Her music is poppy through and through. And her music didn't really fit with the other stuff, so I was a little confused. But on the plus side, it reminded me to write about her.

I know we recently started our "Predictions" segment, and I was going to post Anya as a Grey's Anatomy prediction until I realized that Grey's Anatomy has already used her music. Whoops. No surprise there though. Her songs are catchy and sexy, and just different enough to keep your attention. Her music will definitely keep your head bopping.

Predictions: Grey's Anatomy Music

Welcome to our newest (and hopefully regular) segment Predictions, in which we at GFP will do our best to predict the future of your mainstream musical listening adventures. Basically, the goal here is to try to guess what new artists and/or songs will be featured on the next mainstream show or apple commercial, or what we believe would be a really good match for those sorts of things. In all honesty, both Em and I secretly want Alexandra Patsavas's job, but really, who doesn't.

Rosi Golan has traveled across the world, from Israel where she was born, to Germany, Paris, and finally the US where she recently released her debut album, The Drifter & The Gypsy, this past November. Her voice is infectious, the sound sweet, with plucked banjo and emphatic resonance of the mixture of piano and guitar. This song in particular contains the hook "Come around, come around, come around to me," which is perfect for any Grey's "relationships have gone awry and now we're all being reflective about it for the end of the episode montage scene" moment. Rosi has also collaborated with an old Grey's choice, Ben's Brother, so I figure its only a matter of time before she gets some airplay as well.
